OTR & COTA Elected to NBCOT’s Board of Directors

NBCOT welcomes Adana Gibson, COTA/L, and Janeene Sibla, EdD, OTD, OTR/L, to our board of directors!

OTR and COTA certificants had the opportunity to vote for two new members to join NBCOT’s board of directors. Thousands of certificants participated and elected Adana Gibson, COTA/L, and Janeene Sibla, EdD, OTD, OTR/L, to the board.

Adana Gibson, COTA/L

Yonkers, NY — Certified for 10 years

Adana is a regional rehabilitation consultant overseeing multiple sites, with a focus on clinical compliance, quality of care, and strategic therapy operations. She is also a guest lecturer at Binghamton University and Mercy University and the co-chair of Mercy’s OTA Alumni Association.

“I feel deeply aligned with NBCOT’s vision to ensure the highest quality of occupational therapy services,” Adana shared. “I also believe it’s essential that COTAs have a strong and respected voice within our profession, and I would be proud to be part of that representation.”

With experience in clinical practice, education, and leadership, Adana brings “a unique perspective to the board—one that reflects both the current realities of the field and the future we are building together.” In her current role in management, Adana says she has “a front row seat to the challenges both therapists and students face,” and she looks forward to engaging in “problem-solving with like-minded professionals from the top down.”

“I became a COTA a decade ago, and still, the education I received and this title I hold are the cornerstone of my professional life,” Adana said. “Remaining certified despite not providing direct patient care is what gives me the basis to be a competent rehabilitation professional.”

Janeene Sibla, EdD, OTD, OTR/L

Bismarck, ND — Certified for 35 years

Janeene is the Associate Dean of Health Professions and OT Program Director at the University of Mary. She is also the NBCOT Ambassador for North Dakota.

“I am committed to serving on the NBCOT Board of Directors to help ensure public safety, advance the field of occupational therapy, and support the continued excellence of our profession,” Janeene shared. “I bring a collaborative mindset and strategic perspective to support NBCOT’s mission, contribute to long-term planning, and strengthen stakeholder engagement.” Janeene is particularly invested in “fostering communication, ensuring organizational stability, and promoting innovation that upholds the integrity and viability of NBCOT into the future.”

Recognizing that “healthcare, education, and the regulatory environment are continually changing,” Janeene emphasizes the importance of maintaining “high standards for professional competence and ethical practice.” She brings extensive leadership experience and a passion for safeguarding the quality of occupational therapy practice nationwide. “I am committed to advancing NBCOT’s mission by supporting initiatives that uphold certification standards, promote public protection, and advocate for the continued recognition of occupational therapy as an essential service.”
